I try to work at least eight hours a day. Three to five is the fun stuff – writing and editing novel #2 and maybe working on scripts. The rest is industry research, correspondence... the stuff I have to do. The thing is, the fun stuff is really fun. I don't need a break from writing. I know these next few days will be beautiful. Hiking and all that feeds the soul... But so does writing and that's all I want to do right now.So, how not to be a jerk and to appreciate everything and everyone and yet also write? Swiss cheese will be helpful (working within the holes of time around us), but still...

ReplyDeleteGreat pic! Schedule a certain amount of time for blog reading, blogging, industry stuff, etc. Use the other times to write. Who knows, that might work. If it doesn't, I never posted this.

ReplyDeleteYou've got to take care of that soul as it feeds everything you write. Sometimes writing helps feed the soul, and sometimes being in touch with some aspect of the physical world, in your case nature, feeds it. Well-fed souls are also well-kept.

Jon - Thanks for asking about LUCKY: so far so good w/the chapter/week. I'm a little nervous about this week b/c the action for just this chapter has moved to a new location. Might take longer.
My wife spent time in Washington when she was younger and still talks fondly of the scenery. Have fun. And I work as many hours as possibly, usually hour chunks at a time that add up to 3-5 hours a day.
