Easing In

Last week, overwhelmed. This week, balanced. The difference? The feeling of easing into things.

Tuesday was fantastic - 5 hours marketing Our Spirit and 7 hours writing a WIP. But Monday felt just as good, taking care of smaller things for both projects. Odd, but the days felt similar. I'm wondering if both days were good because I was enjoying them.

Is it that simple? If we feel that we're going with the flow, then we are.

I wanted to post another surfing photo of someone mastering the waves, in the groove, one with the water, celebrating the flow... but it didn't seem right. One, I've never surf-surfed, just body-surfed on Cape Cod and Nantucket. Two, the surfing photos ooze with physical mastery. All I was doing was relaxing into the flow. Hence, the sofa and the waves. So, what's the flow today? Acceptance? Relaxation? Happiness doing what we do?

Maybe I'm just on the sofa, but it's all good.

How about you, where are you at?

  1. I can surf a sofa really well. Usually unconscious, with a pillow on my head.
Today? Less crazy than yesterday, which is a good thing.

  2. I actually like this pic, Robert :)
I'm not in the flow today, to tired, we are currently having the biggest book fair at the Balkans here in my country and it's quite hectic.

  3. The flow is currently at low tide for me. Hopefully it'll balance itself out without going to high tide. But we'll see.

  4. Today, you ask? Unruly...as was yesterday, and the day before. (I believe there's some vacation time looming:)

  5. I love that picture. Such a tiny person and such a huge wave - it's easy to feel that way with life and writing sometimes!Glad you've had a good week so far!

  6. Perfect pic
I wish I could be in the flow but I'm a little tense and tired at the same time. Personally I'd like to put my feet up and do absolutely nothing today but there's too much to do! lol.

  7. For me it's the opposite. Last week was easy, this week is overwhelming. We're only halfway through and I'm praying for an end.

Congrats on have such a productive week already.

  9. I'm still swimming upstream due to the recent family happenings or, at best, treading water. But I'm looking for better days ahead. Glad you're in a good place right now.

  10. Cool photo, Robert! I've been doing a rewrite--in the groove today. I didn't count the hours but got a lot done and was happily lost in the story.

  11. I feel as though a wave crashed on me yesterday :) But not because of writing stuff, but because of kid stuff. Parenting is hard. I'm so glad that you're having a balanced week. I'm going to aim for that.

  12. I always think it has something to do with mental congruence. My mind seems to be like a wave sometimes coming and sometimes going. And I enjoy it on the way in and not so much on the way out. But it's all just part of the process. And thankfully the waves have gotten smaller as I've accepted them - even the ones going in. Which is just fine because generally I get a lot more work done.

Robert, I do so like your metaphors! Hopefully you don't mind when I ride them.

  13. I love the picture!

I'm glad you've found a nice balance. That's so important! Today I'm sending out my nonfiction work before I begin nanowrimo. It's fun trying different things, and I'm kind of going with the flow myself!

  14. For the record: if you can get me on a surfboard, in the ocean, people back home would die with surprise.

Metaphorically, I have no balance. My abs are flabby and my back hurts all the time. In fact, my whole core is dismally weak. Wait, this is realistically, not metaphorically. With that said, my legs are really strong and fit from running and standing for long hours. I need to balance the strength in my body if I want to be healthy and stable. I think it's clear the same goes for my writing career.

  15. I adore that picture. I'm longing for the ocean but making do with the sofa... :)

I've sent off my novel this week as well as the proofs for the April release so I'm unwinding now. It's vital, but sometimes extremely difficult, to find the right balance.

  16. I'm definately in the flow. I've caught that gnarly tubular wave (okay, so I'm a product of the 80s) and riding that baby as far as I can.
