Squawker II

I need to reread my original post about Squawkers. Need to feel it more deeply.

There's still an inner circle squawker who's behaving badly. And there are the query squawkers. To be clear, the query squawkers aren't exactly squawking. They're polite in their passes of novel #1, or silent... But it feels like squawking.

What do you mean you won't represent my novel? Don't you get how well-written, emotionally immediate and compelling to the niche market of gay YA readers it is? What do you mean you don't want to be part of my success?

Deep breath. This is the industry. This is how it works. And it's not been that many. I'm a cautious querier.

Sigh. My ITunes "Peace" shuffle is helping. Breathe.

I gotta get back to enjoying the squawking gulls.

How do you maintain peace?

  1. One of these days, the squawking you hear will be the right kind of squawking. Just keep at it and don't give up! I'm going to be in the querying boat pretty soon, too, and I'm trying to toughen up for it - but nothing really prepares you for it, does it? You just gotta DO it.

  9. Robert!

Tapping into nature always helps calm me down.

Living right by the water should help you with that.

Keep plugging along and enjoy the sound of the chatty birds while you got 'em!

  10. I maintain my peace by running. It clears my head. But, as you've seen in my latest post, I need to confine it to the daytime hours. ;-)

  12. Usually by focusing on something else and giving the project a break . . . even if it's a short one. Listening to music can help, too. :)

  13. Hey, missed you this last month. For peace? Music is good. Dogs are better. Grandkids work if you happen to have them...and they're behaving themselves. Hmmm, I guess that's true of the dogs, too.
